All of our fruits and vegetables are specifically chosen for their natural ability to thrive in our region. Each is planted in organically composted soil, carefully tended to and hand picked at our farm in Killeen, TX. In order to insure that we can grow that best produce possible while limiting the impact on the environment not only do we use organic fertilizers but we use various methods of "Plasticulture". Pasticulture is the use of plastic in agriculture, and includes everything from plastic green houses to drip tape irrigation. The majority of our crops are grown in "Plastic" mulch with drip irrigation. This involves planting is raised rows that have been covered with a thin sheet of plastic mulch.. This thin plastic sheeting limits invasive weeds, as well as insect and other damage that comes from contact with soil. Making it possible to grow healthy, fruitful plants without the use of potentially harmful chemicals frequently found in herbicides, fungicides and pesticides, all with the added benefit of conserving water. Evaporation accounts for 25-50 of water loss from irrigated soil. In our hot Central Texas Summers irrigation is a must in order to produce healthy plants. Plastic mulch dramatically reduces the rate of evaporation while the drip irrigation allows us to limit water usage to only where its nessecary. This means that we are able to use less water less often.
As a Family Owned Farm we eat year round therefore we grow year round. This insures we have a variety of fresh seasonal produce available not only in the height of the spring summer season but Throughout the year.
